Winter tyres - for a save driving on snow and ice.
The "M + S" (or M & S, MS) marking can currently be found on winter and all season tyres. Besides this marking, a snowflake symbol can be found on some models. The M + S tyres that have the snowflake symbol meet the higher quality standards. Since 2011, winter tyres are mandatory in Ireland. Having a special blend of rubber that resists to low temperatures, these tyres are more adapted to winter conditions than the summer tyres. Therefore, the car will have a good grip even dealing with low temperatures. The optimised profile reduces the risk of hydroplaning and provides a good grip in snowy and icy conditions. The larger grooves and the additional blades improve stability when switching from snow to wet and to dry road conditions. We have winter tyres suitable for your car. Identify the size of your tyre
The exact dimensions of a tyre can be found on the sidewall printed mark. The graphic shows how to read properties and dimensions of the tyre:

SPEED INDEX:
The speed index indicates the maximum speed intended for the tyre. Up to this value, the manufacturer guarantees optimum operation with the appropriate tyre pressure. The maximum speed allowed for this vehicle is given in the vehicle owner's manual; this information can be used to select the appropriate speed index for the tyre. The speed index is the last mark on the sidewall of the tyre.
 
Load Index
Permissible maximum axle load per tyre in kg. To be found in the registration certificate or vehicle registration document or read directly from the tyre (two-digit number). It is permitted to fit a tyre with a higher load index.
 
Driving safety despite puncture
Runflat tyres are puncture-resistant tyres with reinforced sidewalls. This creates the so-called run-flat property. In the event of damage, this allows the vehicle to continue driving up to a distance of approx. 100 km (and even beyond depending on the product) at a maximum speed of 80 km/h, even if the pressure has been completely lost. Run-flat tyres even prevent the tyre rubber from jumping off the rim in the event of a loss of air pressure. A flat tyre is therefore still a flat tyre, but it loses some of its drama. Note: All run-flat tyres are marked with the symbol "RSC" (Runflat System Component) and may only be fitted in vehicles with a functioning air pressure control system!
 
Tyres with increased load capacity
Reinforced tyres are designed for higher loads than normal tyres. They can be identified by the designation 'RF' (reinforced) or also 'XL' or 'Extra Load'. They are used on vans, minibuses, off-road vehicles, etc. However, their mounting alone does not automatically result in higher load capacity but also requires a correspondingly higher air pressure. Furthermore, the load capacity index specified in the vehicle documents continues to apply.
 
Tyres with extra high load capacity
The "C" in the term C tyres stands for "commercial". These tyres are specially designed for commercial vehicles. These can be, for example, lighter trucks, delivery vans, flatbed trucks or panel vans. In other words: vehicles that have to move higher loads at a comparatively lower speed. The multi-ply reinforced C tyres are therefore even more load-bearing than reinforced tyres.
 
Mobility-optimised tyres
A tyre with a sealing layer on the opposite side of the tyre tread. In the event of a puncture (e.g. by a nail), this layer blocks any loss of air, even if the foreign body causing the puncture is still in the tyre. It is not necessary to stop or change the tyres immediately at the roadside.

Original equipment quality: optimum adjustment to the vehicle
Tyres with a special OEM marking on the sidewall, e.g. "MO" for Mercedes-Benz, were developed in cooperation with a specific car manufacturer and the tyre industry. These tyres have been homologated by the vehicle manufacturer and are a perfect match for a specific model. They have been specially designed to highlight or further improve the performance characteristics of the car in question, thus representing the culmination of a state-of-the-art fine-tuning process that perfectly complements the latest technological developments in the automotive industry. car car The Pilot Alpin PA4 is an excellent tyre. The tyre size is 265/30 - 20 and was used on the rear axle of my Alpina B3 GT Touring. I have used this tyre on my previous car, Mercedes AMG E63s Estate. I would have preferred to have bought Pilot Alpin 5 tyres, but they are not available in this size.

These tyres perform superbly in winter conditions, and are my go-to winter tyre, reviewed on a Quattro S5, but I've used the same tyre on a RWD C250, and they were great on both (even more essential on the RWD car in the cold, in fact). They provide top-tier grip in all cold conditions, and are only slightly noisier and slightly 'harsher' (more bumps) than the summer tyres on the car, which is good going for a winter tyre. They are pricey, but wear well, I have used them for a full winter season, and they will do several more. Well worth the investment in my opinion.

Range does decrease a little with the Tesla which may be a combination of software range prediction and actual range reduction due to factors like rolling resistance. Although I never used these in full on snow, during the winter months I never once had any scary moments like I would normally. I also noted that at motorway speeds these handled rainfall and taking standing water at speed much better, although not as good as the other car's all seasons tires since these are far wider. I would recommend them, however I would note that you do lose some steering feel at the limit of corners, and off the line traction on hotter days (7c+) was compromised compared to normal SuperSports. A worthy trade-off for the morning and storm confidence in my opinion.

I had Pirelli Sottozero serie ii on my last car and they were awful, but did allow me to get up the drive when covered in snow. These Alpin PA4 ZP's ride much better, grip much better and just don't really feel like a compromise unless you are really pressing on, when a summer tyre would be better. (I don't really push it when temperatures are sub zero.) 5 stars for dry grip, given its a winter tyre.

This was the second time I have purchased this set of winter tyres. Winter 2023 I drove across Czech republic where a heavy snowfall suprised us on the way. With those tyres absolutely no problem, felt safe.

Able drive through dry snow >15cm and on incline. Had one drive on wet snow that was up to 15cm in depth which only had minor slipping.

Tyres have performed well so far it's still early January so haven't been able to test their performance in the snow yet but they feel reasuring in the wet the car needed tyres when we brought it so a wear comparison will be difficult but I expect then to wear quicker than standard tyres as the compound is bound to be softer on a winter tyre

Tyres can be noisy over rougher surfaces but seem to be lasting well. Not really had any snow to speak of to test them on properly but perform well enough in very wet conditions on roads. Fuel consumption seems to be slightly worse than with summer tyres fitted but not too noticeable, getting around 35mpg at each fill up - was getting 35 to 38 with previous tyres.

Great tyres for the price. Kept grip in the snow and ice we had in winter. Noticed a big difference in grip compared to my all seasons tyres. They perform brilliantly for the price. Extra fuel consumption is minimal. Would purchase again.

There was an error with my address, the courier got a mixed of and different address which dose not exist , and therefor could not deliver my tyers . I am still waiting for any response to the investigation into where my tyers are from mytyres , at the recommendation of the courier . In short I had to use the deteriorating winter tyres I fortunately still had , which performed perfectly adequately for the duration of what winter we had .
